SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO AIRCRAFT NOISE
INSULATION PROGRAM
South San Francisco, CA
San Francisco International Airport
Since 1986, CSDA has provided design and construction administration services for the City of South San Francisco
Airport Sound Mitigation Services (ASMS). The purpose of the program is to reduce interior noise levels in homes
located near the San Francisco International Airport by replacing a home's windows and doors and by installing
sound baffles on attic vents and exhaust ducts. CSDA has been instrumental in assisting the City in completing
more than 6,500 single and multi-family homes that were built mostly in the 1940's through the 1970's. During
a specific three year period, CSDA assisted in the completion of 1,400 homes annually. In addition, CSDA completed
the noise mitigation of three churches, one school and a convent. Instrumental to the program's success was
CSDA's development and establishment of a Community Outreach Program to stimulate homeowner participation
in the program and guide homeowners through the program's process. In addition, CSDA established an ASMS
Showcase Home within the affected neighborhoods to provide homeowners with an easy accessible place to obtain
information and ask questions about the program and to view pre-qualified acoustical components, such as windows,
various door types, hardware finishes, attic insulation, and baffles.
