AMERICAN COMMUNITY SCHOOL
ARCHITECTURAL PLANNING, DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION
Dhaka, Bangladesh
CSDA has had a relationship working with the American Community School in Dhaka for more than 20 years.
CSDA provided the K-12 school with a range of architectural services, including the planning, design,
and construction administration of various facilities to expand and accommodate a student population
that grew from 600 to 1,000 students. CSDA originally assessed the needs of the school and prioritized
requirements such as lighting/power, pedestrian/vehicular traffic flow, and other adjacent activities.
From this data, CSDA developed several expansion schemes for consideration by the School Board,
and prepared a final facilities analysis and Feasibility Study Report. Following the Report, CSDA was
retained to design a cafeteria, gymnasium and a new three-story, 63,000 SF, state-of-the art
classroom/library building. The classroom/library building serves as the key element in the realignment
of the existing campus and creates new play and courtyard spaces. The building's design compliments
the existing campus buildings, provides a distinctive new spirit of architecture for the campus
with its 3-story rotunda/atrium space, and takes advantage of a site on a prominent corner of the campus
to establish a new signature image for the school and with the community at-large. Construction cost
for facilities designed was approximately $7 Million.
