Redwood High School
Aquatic Center / Gymnasium Complex
Larkspur, CA
Tamalpais Union High School District
The newly designed practice gym and pool complex will be a welcome addition to the Redwood High School campus. Currently in construction, the facility is scheduled to be complete
by the end of 2008. The new pool will be 40 meters long and 25 yards wide. This size allows the best use of lanes for competitive swimming, as well as for recreational programs.
The community and District agreed on the raised edge detail, with gutters integrated into the vertical pool edge. This makes the water surface close to 12 inches below the deck,
and maximizes the dry deck area. The pool has a 12 foot maximum depth to provide for both a one-meter diving board and racing platform starts. The shallow end depths were designed
in response to particular program needs. Lane widths range from 8 feet to 9 feet. The pool will have storage areas, deck showers, a small office area, and toilet/changing rooms
for both men and women. The roof structure of the new gym has been designed to support the future addition of photovoltaic solar panels. The PV panels will be used to heat both
the pool and water used for restrooms and showers.
