SOUTH LOS ANGELES AREA HIGH SCHOOL NO. 3

Los Angeles, CA

Los Angeles Unified School District

CSDA is designing the new South Los Angeles Area High School No. 3 on an urban 15.3-acre site in South Central LA. This new 262,000 SF facility will serve 2,025 students and includes 75 teaching stations. Comprised of a 4-story classroom building and four auxiliary buildings, the new campus was designed to promote LAUSD’s Small Learning Community initiative. The new campus includes classrooms, administration offices, a library/media center, a gymnasium/athletic building, a multi-purpose/ performing arts building, food service facilities, a stadium and parking structure.
In order to meet funding deadlines, the design phase was accelerated. CSDA led the design through the presented and discussed program and site options for the new high school with all decision-makers at LAUSD. These collaborative meetings have accelerated the process and met the aggressive schedule. This cooperative effort will serve as a model for future school design planning by LAUSD.
